For a relatively inexpensive, pocket-size camera the A570is offers great bang for the buck. If offers very good performance as a fully automatic snapshot camera. But it also allows you to adjust the settings just like the pros, which means you can actually get creative. The value of the optical stabilization is not to be underestimated either. You can hand-hold shots at shutter speeds you wouldn't think of using without it. The only real downside to warn you about is battery consumption: it is a battery hog. Lithium batteries are the only ones I've found that are reasonably long lived. Stick with them and keep reminding yourself that it's still cheaper than film. The pictures you end up with are worth it.
